Learn 4 ways to use AI for blogging in this article.
I’ve found that many bloggers are frightened by the prospect of using AI.
They fear it will be difficult and complex.
Or they think that so many people will start using it to write blog posts that the value of original blogging content will get lost in a sea of instant, boilerplate information.
Other bloggers can’t wait to get started because they reason that blogging with AI will be so fast, simple and effortless, that they can quickly multiply their content output many times over.
Neither of these assumptions is totally accurate, however.
Using AI to create “instant” blog posts is simply an attempt to copy and paste generic text and try to pass it as authentic, thoughtful, original and high-quality content.
And as for it being too difficult to do, well this article should put that fear to rest.
In the following guide, I will show you how to use AI properly and ethically.
Generate topics
The first thing you need for blogging is to know what to write about. That means you need a list of article topics that you can line up to consider writing blog posts about.
But what topics are best for your blog?
Did you just start a new blog?
If so, you may have no idea where to get started.
An AI search can result in exactly the topics that would work best for your blog.
This is one of the great benefits of using AI.
It can give you specific feedback instead of just general ideas.
So if you prompt your AI machine to “give me 10 interesting topics to write about on my fishing blog,” you’ll get ideas for blog post topics precisely relevant to your blog.
If you just did a Google search for the same thing, you’d probably get good ideas, too.
But you’d probably have to search through multiple blogs and do a lot of reading to whittle down to what you’re interested in finding out.
Even if you’ve been blogging for years, generating topics to write about is a challenge.
You’ve probably already written a lot of blog posts on the biggest topics in your niche.
But what next?
After you’ve written so many blog posts, you need to come up with new and fresh ideas that go beyond repeating all the ideas you’ve already developed.
Using AI helps you to dig deep into your topic generation.
Using AI for keyword research
It’s important to use keywords in your articles.
In fact, your blog posts should be written to conform to specific keywords or keyword phrases.
Let’s say you decide that an interesting keyword for an article might be “catch and release.”
Now, you need to use that keyword as the basis for your article.
Maybe you’ll write an article on “Is catch and release OK for fish?”
Interesting topic, right?
And you came up with the idea because you determined that “catch and release” would be a good keyword phrase for your blog.
But how would you have come up with the keyword “catch and release” to begin with?
The answer is keyword research.
You have to do keyword research to come up with a list of keywords to guide your blog post development.
There are many tools you can use to do that keyword research.
Some are free, but the best ones can be very costly.
With AI, you can get lists of keywords to work with almost effortlessly.
So your AI prompt might be “give me the 50 best keywords for fishing blog posts.”
This will result in a list to start working from.
And it only takes a few minutes.
If you prefer 100, 500 or a thousand keywords, just include that in your prompt.
You’re in charge.
You don’t have to jump through hoops, spend a lot of time and effort, or shell out big bucks for software or monthly subscription services.
You could have far more than enough relevant keywords for your blog in just minutes.
Then all you need to do is decide which ones you want to develop into blog posts.
Draft an outline
Once you have a keyword for your article, then you can use your AI machine to draft an outline.
Make it something that will be unique, and set your content apart from others.
If your keyword is “best email marketing practices,” for instance, then you can organize your blog post into an outline form.
You might prompt the AI in the following way.
“What are the 5 most important email marketing practices?”
The AI machine will give you those 5 “best practices.”
Now you have a good draft for your outline.
You could construct your blog post around each of those 5 best practices.
Of course, it could be the 3, 7 or 10 best practices.
Whatever is most suitable to the content you want to arrange for your article.
You can also create sub-sections for each of those main header sections.
So, if you have 5 best practices, you can go back to each of those section headers and develop subheadings.
What a good outline looks like
Let’s say the first “best practice” is to “personalize your subject lines.”
You could now go back to AI and ask “what are 3 ways to personalize your subject lines?”
Perhaps AI tells you that using first names is one of the best ways to personalize subject lines.
Also, including a birthday greeting is another way.
And referring to a recipient’s known interests is a third way.
Now you have 3 sub-headings to “personalize your subject lines: that you can include in your outline..
If you keep repeating this process, you will end up with 5 headings, and let’s say each has 3 subheadings.
So now you have a complete outline to work from.
It’s time to write your blog post.
Write your blog post
The final step is to write your blog post.
This is where I’d suggest that you don’t really use AI at all.
Your outline gives you the 5 headings for your article, plus 15 (3 times 5) sub-headings.
Now, you just need to start writing.
Give substance to all the topics and sub-topics in your outline.
If you can do this from your own knowledge, then you are ready to write.
But if you need to do additional research, then do that as you go along.
Where it is called for, add your opinions or perspectives.
This is how you write an original blog post that features your writing style and your ideas.
You cannot and should not use AI to write the article for you.
If you do, your article would not be original or even thoughtful.
It would just be a rehash of generally understood facts which is what AI would generate.
In other words, use AI to gather keywords, topics and outlines.
But when it comes to actually writing the blog post, then write it yourself, with your own style, language, and ideas.
Write your blog posts with your own thoughts and understanding, not by copying-pasting a bunch of heartless and mindless AI text.
